It all started there. Rucanor's classic shoes are iconic in Dutch sports fashion. Today, Rucanor has grown to offer so much more: from a wide range of sports products to modern bicycles and e-bikes. The rubber and canvas shoes have left significant footprints to fill, and this is still done with passion to this day.
Rucanor was founded in 1956 in Rotterdam as a trading company specialising in canvas gym shoes with rubber soles. The name “Rucanor” is a combination of: the rubber & canvas organisation. In the early years, the company mainly sold these gym shoes. Rucanor soon became more than just the iconic shoe: it evolved into a sports brand offering sports shoes, clothing, and equipment.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Rucanor experienced rapid growth and began expanding its product line. The brand became known for its high-quality sportswear and accessories for various sports, including football, athletics, and gymnastics. We also introduced sports braces and other protective accessories. In 1964, we launched a complete baseball line in collaboration with renowned baseball player Ron Fraser.
In the mid-1980s and early 1990s, oversized clothing with fluorescent colours and tracksuits made from parachute fabric were in vogue. From the 1990s onwards, the Never Out-of-Stock (NOS) concept became one of our focal points. The NOS principle evolved from the cash-and-carry idea, a service for retailers to quickly refresh their stock with best-selling products.
Rucanor celebrates its fiftieth anniversary. Since its founding in 1956, the brand has grown into a major player in basic sports equipment. Shortly after the anniversary, Rucanor undergoes a change in its organisation.
Rucanor developed work shoes with a focus on comfort and a sporty, contemporary appearance. By integrating technologies from the sports world, Rucanor offers work shoes that are lightweight, provide excellent cushioning, and maintain a modern look, all without compromising on safety and durability.
In 2024, Rucanor introduced its e-bikes, designed to blend style and power with an attractive price point.
